K. J. Parker — Two More Glowing Reviews for PURPLE AND BLACK

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

Purple and BlackFans of outstanding fantasy will want to consider picking up a copy of K. J. Parker’s novella, Purple and Black, which has garnered another couple of outstanding reviews:

From The Sacramento Book Review:

Purple and Black is a masterful telling of a story that fully satisfies.”

From Heloise Merlin’s Weblog:
“…Parker seems to thrive on the novella form, and this book is as entertaining as it is fascinating. It’s a brief read, but it’s guaranteed to haunt its reader for a long time after closing it, and to provide food for many thoughts.”

We should also add that we’ve just received the first-ever interview K. J. Parker has given, for a future issue of Subterranean Online.

Lettered Edition Shipping Update

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

The City & the CityWe’ve been fairly quiet about this, as we wanted everything sorted out before stringing our customers along again, but our traycase supplier went out of business owing us many thousands of dollars and hundreds of cases. We placed an order with the manufacturer our friend Jim Seels at ASAP Publishing uses, as well as our other regular supplier Judi Conant, and are happy to say that the following cases have just finished shipping:

Or Else My Lady Keeps the Key (Kage Baker);
Gardens of the Moon (Steve Erikson);
Interworld (Neil Gaiman and Michael Reaves);
The Other in the Mirror (Philip Jose Farmer);
The City & the City (China Mieville);
On Stranger Tides (Tim Powers);
Wild Thyme and Green Magic (Jack Vance);

Very shortly, our shippers will be working on:

Woods & Waters Wild (Charles de Lint);
Altered Carbon (Richard K. Morgan);
The Steel Remains (Richard K. Morgan);
The Jack Vance Reader (Jack Vance);
Worlds of Weber (David Weber);

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY Reviews Patricia Briggs

Monday, October 12th, 2009

Alpha and OmegaOur forthcoming Patricia Briggs novella, Alpha and Omega, was just reviewed by Publishers Weekly. Here are the important bits: “This terrific little story, originally published in a 2007 anthology, is the first in Patricia Briggs’s Alpha and Omega series…Spare writing and strong descriptions will entice readers to continue following Anna and Chance to two forthcoming novels.”

Joe Hill — Pre-order the Limited Edition of His New Novel, HORNS

Monday, October 12th, 2009

PS Publishing has just begun taking orders on the signed limited edition of Joe Hill’s upcoming novel, Horns. I’ve been lucky enough to read it in manuscript, and let me tell you it’s even more ambitious an unsparing than Joe’s debut novel, Heart-Shaped Box. We expect the limited to go quickly, especially the 200 copy traycased edition, so you might want to head over to the PS site and check out the full dark details of the novel. Vincent Chong will be producing a number of full color illustrations — and different covers for each edition — making the PS edition the one for collector’s to have.

novik-service.jpg

Our pal Shawn at The Signed Page has made arrangements to offer signed and/or personalized copies of the forthcoming omnibus of Naomi Novik’s first three Temeraire novels. Not only is In His Majesty’s Service a great way to have the novels gathered into one massive hardcover edition, it will also include a short story by Naomi available nowhere else. We’ve already got our orders in, and suggest Temeraire fans everywhere might want to do the same.

Two Jack Vance Titles Being Reprinted

Saturday, October 10th, 2009

The KragenWe’ve just put in reprint orders for two of our Jack Vance titles, one very recent, one from a couple of years ago. The Kragen is the rare novella that Jack eventually reworked into his full length novel Blue World. As this was the smallest print run we’ve done for a Vance title, we’ve received periodic requests to reprint it, and now seemed a good time to do so.

At the same time, our surprise best-seller, This is Me, Jack Vance! in which the SF Grandmaster writes about the vagabond life he’s led, went out of print very quickly, and Jack asked that we make it available for a longer period of time. So we’re reprinting it as well.

We’re offering each of these for a special price for the first few days they’re up for preorder, so line up your copy now and save a few dollars in the process.

Ebay Auctions Abound!

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

Ebay AuctionsWe’ve just posted nearly 30 new Ebay auctions, some older titles, some new, some never offered before, all of them at 50% off. With our upcoming release schedule, we don’t plan on another batch of Ebay auctions this year, so now’s the time to pick up a few titles you’ve been missing. We may have time to add a few more auctions to the mix later this week, but there’s already a healthy representative of SubPress’s wares on display, with books by Kage Baker, Brian Lumley, China Mieville, Greg Egan, and a whole host of other fine writers. We hope you find a book or three to your liking.

Remember, there are only 25 copies of each book listed, and we won’t be replenishing the auctions, so if something catches your fancy, please don’t delay.
