Thomas Ligotti Limited Editions Coming + More

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

We’ve just reached agreement with Thomas Ligotti to produce limited editions of a number of his classic works, beginning with a signed hardcover of Songs of a Dead Dreamer next year. We look forward to offering readers and collectors new sturdy editions of that classic title as well as Grimscribe, Noctuary, and others.

Also in book news, Jay Lake has turned in all but the original material for his collection, The Sky That Binds, as well as a novella, Chain of Stars, for Subterranean Online.

Leviathan Wept and Others, Daniel Abraham’s debut collection, is in house too, fully designed, and will be sent to the author to proofread in a number of days.

AngelicMeanwhile, have a look at the wonderful cover for Kelley Armstrong’s long novelette, Angelic. The artist is hard at work on the interior illustrations, which we expect to see any time now.

The next issue, starting in early April, will be guest edited by Gardner Dozois, with fiction by Joe R. Lansdale, Paul J. McAuley, Liz Williams, Lucius Shepard (a story set against the backdrop of Jack Vance’s Dying Earth) and much more.

In other magazine news, we’ve just bought a striking novelette by K. J. Bishop, whose first novel, The Etched City, made a much deserved splash a few years ago.

Shipping and Stock Update — Dan Simmons, Jim Butcher, and George R. R. Martin

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

DroodAll copies of Dan Simmons’s magisterial novel of Charles Dickens and Wilkie Collins, Drood, are now en route to customers. Only 40-50 copies of the limited edition remain. We also finished shipping the lettered edition of Storm Front, the first of the Dresden Files novels by Jim Butcher. The next novel in the series, Grave Peril, has already been designed and proofread. Vincent Chong just needs to fit the art into his busy schedule, and we’ll be ready to assign a release date to the book.
A Feast for Crows

Finally, after several years in pre-production, we’re more than pleased to announce that both the limited and lettered editions of A Feast for Crows by George R. R. Martin are being carefully packed and shipped to customers. Our shippers are just starting this process, which will likely take roughly a week to complete. We’ll post more updates as things progress. Thanks to everyone for their patience. We’re certain you’ll be pleased with the finished book.

Ebay Auctions at 50% Off

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

The Shadow of the WindWe’ve had a number of customers ask when we’re going to do another 50% off sale, or run another of our ever popular Grab Bag specials, and the truth is that we’re shipping so many orders — both new and already in-print titles — that we haven’t had a chance to schedule either promotion. Add to that, our warehouse is currently undergoing construction to add an expanded loading dock, and I’m sure you’ll understand why things are so busy around here — not counting the far more than a dozen books we have at the printer.

We recognize, though, that folks are very interested in stretching their book dollars, so we’ve listed ten copies each of a number of SubPress titles on Ebay, all with Buy It Now prices of half-off the cover price. Head over, have a look, and pick up a book or two. As we have the chance, we’ll run a few more of these more limited promotions in the near future.

Elizabeth Bear — Low Stock Alert on SEVEN FOR A SECRET + More

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

Seven for a SecretWe’re expecting enough orders from our wholesalers in the next two weeks to put the trade hardcover edition of Seven for a Secret (Elizabeth Bear) out of print, so if you’ve been hankering for a copy, now’s a good time to get your order in. Copies of the limited edition, with an 11,000 word chapbook, “The Tricks of London”, also continue to sell steadily. Update: We’re down to fewer than 50 copies of the trade hardcover remaining.

A Fantasy MedleyAlso headed into the out of print realm soon is A Fantasy Medley (edited by Yanni Kuznia), which hasn’t even started shipping yet! As I write this, we’re down to our last couple hundred copies of the trade edition, and the last 35-40 copies of the limited edition. It will only take a few wholesaler/large online retailer order to take care of the trade edition, and we expect the limited to go out of print about the same time.

We’ve been quite pleased with Medley, which was our first attempt at a smaller, less expensive anthology, and have two more lined up, one edited by Nick Gevers (with original stories so far by Robert Silverberg and Kage Baker) and Pat St. Denis (with original tales by L. E. Modesitt, Jr. and Hal Duncan).

New Limited Editions Just Announced — Peter Straub, Kelley Armstrong, and Peter Crowther

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

Forever Twilight 2We’re pleased to announce three additions to this year’s SubPress schedule:

The Skylark (Peter Straub) — This is an alternate version of Peter’s upcoming novel, A Dark Matter. Our edition will be a good 200 manuscript pages longer than the trade hardcover, and is, as Peter describes it, “a much looser, sloppier, more wild-eyed version of the book, with blind alleys, red herrings, and false trails.”

Angelic (Kelley Armstrong) — Kelley returns to her popular Otherword setting for a tale featuring Eve Levine, a half-demon master of the dark arts. Given Kelley’s legion of fans, we’re expecting demand for this title to be high.

Forever Twilight 2 (Peter Crowther) — We’ve fast tracked Pete’s Forever Twilight 2: Windows to the Soul, which continues on from Darkness Darkness, and will publish it this summer. Those looking for an homage to old school, Twilight Zone flavored sf, won’t be disappointed by Pete’s latest novel.

Neil Gaiman — THE GRAVEYARD BOOK is Almost Here

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

The Graveyard BookGood news for all of you who’ve been patiently waiting for the limited edition of Neil Gaiman’s Newbery award-winning novel, The Graveyard Book. Our slipcase manufacturer informed us late last week that they would be running the cases as their next order, and barring any unforeseen delays, should be shipping us cases by the end of this week.

As soon as the cases arrive at the SubPress warehouse, we’ll fit Graveyard in at the top of the shipping queue. Our shippers will finish whatever new book they’re working on, then start on Neil’s glorious novel to get customers their copies as soon as possible.

Thanks again to everyone for their patience. We think you’ll be pleased with the end result.

Shipping Update — Books Lining Up on the Tarmac

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

Marionettes, Inc.First, the shipping update. Following superhuman effort and the ability to ignore all distractions — the SubPress warehouse is being added on to while the current batches of books are being sent out — our shippers expect to have all numbered copies of Dan Simmons’s Drood en route to customers no later than Tuesday. Following that, they’ll ship the lettered edition of Storm Front (Jim Butcher) and then move on to the massive undertaking of getting the limited and lettered editions of A Feast for Crows (George R. R. Martin) out to customers.

The following titles are all completed, waiting at our printer for pick up:

Marionettes, Inc. (Ray Bradbury)
The Other in the Mirror (Philip Jose Farmer);
Stephen King Goes to the Movies;
A Fantasy Medley (edited by Yanni Kuznia).

We expect even more titles to be finished in the next two weeks and will post more about those as they’re completed.

Finally, look to the skies for a huge Ray Bradbury announcement in the next few weeks.

The Onion Girl by Charles de Lint.jpg

We’re making progress on Charles de Lint’s signature novel, The Onion Girl, in which long-time Newford denizen — and fan favorite — Jilly Coppercorn takes center stage. The book is completely proofed, the signature pages and cover are in hand, and we’re just waiting for the endsheets and one more piece of art from Mike Dringenberg. We’ve also ordered Advance Reading Copies, so Charles’s landmark novel is on schedule for release this August.
